Ford Mondeo Diesel 1996 Is the Starter Solenoid separate from the Starter Motor Please?
proud walker asked:
every now and then my daughter’s car won’t start without a bit of a boost from jump leads, usually after a longer journey, say more than 45 minutes. My husband said it sounded like the starter solenoid and I was wondering whether it could be replaced cheaply/easily, or whether she’d have to get a new starter motor always assuming that’s the problem.
the battery’s been checked and the water level, both fine.

no all part of the same system. why do you ask?
Hi
No the solonoid is integral with the starter motor
Hope this helps
Some ford model vehicles did have a seperate solenoid swith that was usually mounted on the passenger side fender well. Pop the hood and look for a part that has two cables going to it. It could also be that your starter is over heating since you said you have to wait. You can get heat wrap tape to keep it from heating up but if you have changed it recently then likely someone didnt put the heat shroud back on cause they are a pain to get on from under the vehicle. Check and see if there is a thin metal plate between the starter and the block. If not i suggest heat wrapping it to at least see if that helps out before you spend money on a new starter. See this alot on hot rods when people put after market headers that run alot closer to the starter than normal. ~Good luck.
No its not….in most cases the solenoid drives the Actuating lever that engages the pinion and clutch as the motor spins, this allows the engine to turn and start and the starter to dis-engage,as the car is 12 years old could be the original starter and they have a life span…batt ok so looks like lazy starter..as they close to engine get hot and over years loose lube and get tight….thus will start sort of from cold…but wont from hot…..
