I’m almost out of home heating oil in my tank. Can I use diesel fuel temporarily?

diesel fuel
cgb asked:

It’s May in the Northeast, and some of the mornings make my house chilly. I don’t want a refill, because I will need at least 150 gallons for a delivery ($$$.) Can I use a few gallons of diesel fuel to tide me over?

  1. Yes, diesel will work just as well.

  2. I’ll bet you could find a small independent oil delivery guy to do you a favor and deliver 50 gallons. You save the road tax on diesel and have it hauled to your house for free. Maybe a neighbor could get the rest of the delivery to make it worth while for the truck to come to your house.

I’d use a small electric heater to take out that morning chill before I’d use diesel fuel which will leave a smell. I’m wondering if the Northeast is ever going to warm up. I’ve got my furnace running right now, I just got up and it needs to be warmer in here before I shower.

  4. yes - It just cost more - but it is more efficient and won’t clog up the burner’s firing as much as home heating oil. Sometimes your delivery company may sub without telling you. The flame does burn bluer.
