What 6.5 diesel engine would fit my 1997 chevy 2500?

All 6.5 diesels were turbo except for the first two years, 92 and 93, so you need an engine from 94 or later. Turbocharged and non-turbocharged are not the same. You’ll have less problems replacing the engine if you get one from a similar model year, but don’t get an earlier one due to problems with the injection pump in earlier years. Preferably, use 1999 or later.
look for a motor from 97-99 they all have the same style turbo and injection pump
