What is the best diesel, the 12V Cummins, the 24V Cummins, or the Powerstroke 7.3L?
atvman_400 asked:
I want to get a diesel truck to build up a little, but I want it to be reliable. I haven’t heard a lot of good about the Powerstroke 6.0L. I don’t want an Isuzu Durajunk, and I can’t afford the Powerstroke 6.4L or the Cummins 6.7L. So that leaves me with the 12V Cummins, the 24V Cummins, the Powerstroke 7.3L and the Chevy 6.5L.

12v cummins for sure
Go with the ford. The new ones have went through extreme tests such as towing 25000Lb in -45C weather. They’re bad ass and they last along time. Check out ford website you can read about the trucks that they did 10,000,000 kms on without any problems
son, the master mechanic, says 12v Cummins
24V Cummins. Huge power. 350000 mile minimum life. Many out there dual turboed and chipped putting out huge power and staying alive.
I would say 12v or 24v Cummins, you can’t go wrong with either one. A friend has had both for his lawncare business and they were both stone cold reliable. As far as power, I drove them both and liked the additional power of the 24v. Actually the Ford 7.3 was a pretty good motor, but I would favor the Cummins over it. I agree, stay away from the 6.0 Ford.
I would go with the 7.3 powerstroke. My dad bout one new in 98 and he has 500xxx miles on it. all he has had to do is change the oil regularly, and change the glow plugs once a year..The thing still gets 17-20 mpg.
