“Boxer” means horizontally opposed. It offers better balance, less vibration, lower centre of gravity, and better cooling.
A diesel would be more fuel efficient, that’s all.
nothing, just clever advertising to make you think there is….
and it works
Well, a boxer engine is sort of like a V engine, except instead of the “V,” they horizontally oppose the cylinders. I guess it’s like a 180 degree V engine, in a nutshell, which would mean that they are flat. It is called “boxer” because the movement of the pistons is like that of a boxer’s, especially in a 4 cylinder (two “fists” per boxer because two cylinders on each side).
Boxer engines are usually referred to as “H’s” so a 4 cylinder boxer would be an H4 or a 6 cylinder an H6. Porsche uses boxer engines.
Boxer engines are generally said to have a lower center of gravity, meaning better handling.
Subaru is the first to make a diesel boxer engine, meaning it runs on diesel instead of petrol (better fuel efficiency), so they can brag that they are the first to do so.
Most engines has the pistons running up and down, V configuration engines have the pistons angled in V form. A boxer engine has the pistons running horizontally with two pistons on each side.
The original VW beetle had this sort of configuration to allow a very compact engine. Subaru have used the boxer engine for many years in the high performance cars.
Subaru are as far as I know the first motor company to offer a production diesel boxer engine.
It sound be a very powerful, compact engine.
Ja.
Subaru have always been able to make very fuel inefficient engines and now they have made an inefficient diesel HOORAY, for stupidity.
